If you HAVE to drive the truck until the dealer can fix it, putting the transmission in tow mode around town and then taking it out of tow mode at highway speed (65+ mph) should reduce or maybe stop the shuddering. If you have to have the Colorado/Canyon and don't want the 8 speed, then your choice is to find a gently used 2015 or 2016 with the 6 speed, or get a newer diesel with the 6 speed.
