The safety plunger spring's sole job it to return the plunger to it's position after firing. If you polish it and keep it clean there should be no issues., It is crticial that any spring that returns the plunger to its downward position after shots are fired. If the plunger spring has to push a rough plunger through a dirty channel then a reduced power spring is probably not a great idea.
