Generac error code 1505 rpm sense loss

My Generac 6551 22kW generator is having 1505 RPM Sense Loss alarm code issues. This seems intermittent and some weeks it will exercise normally, and other weeks I will see the red alarm light on the side and see this code on the screen. When reset, the unit seems to start normally in Manual mode and run until I put the unit back into Off.

If the RPM sense loss itself was the fault (such as shorting the kill wire) I think the fault would appear at the same time as the engine shut down. But it's well after it stops that the fault finally appears.
