Jun 21, 2017 · I have a 1967 Ford 3000 diesel with a 540 live PTO. Recently I was cutting with a rotary cutter and noted that my tractor was being pushed even when I pushed the clutch in. This only happened when the PTO was engaged and attached to the rotary cutter. I have used the same cutter in the past without this problem.

I unhooked the tach cable from the generator and turned it with my fingers, the tach began to go up. Well I knew that was all good so I took off the bottom plate where the tach gear is at on the generator.You have a two stage clutch and sometimes it's hard to balance the drive clutch and the PTO clutch because they frequently wear at different rates.
