Firefighter knots. The square knot is useless unless you work on a sailing ship. There's a reason it's also called a reef knot, because all its good for is reefing a sail. I really hate how the boy scouts teach it as the first knot. I get that it's simple, but then everybody thinks it's good for something. But yeah, not having a bowline is pretty egregious.
