Try the following on the directv remote: 1. av1 or av2 whichever has the denon code. 2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks, release. 3. enter 9 6 3., Try pushing Mute and select at the same time till the light blinks twice at the top and press 981 . You should either see a red light or 4 green blinks. Then point the remote at the receiver and press mute and enter (under the number 9) at the same time for 5 seconds. You should see "Your remote is not setup for rf".
